MY Daily Wearer

This is a sleek, dress-up Seiko SKX007 with new dial, hands, bezel ring, and bezel insert. This was designed as a “dress homage” to the Tornek Rayville TR-900 US Navy dive watch — specifically the refurbished one featured in Hodinkee that has the Fifty Fathom Milspec bezel insert. That particular specimen is my favorite watch. i think that is the best looking watch I’ve ever seen.

As a dress version, the dial is a black sunburst with applied silver indices and the hands are silver milspec/ladder hands. The milanese band is very comfortable and inexpensive and fits nicely with short lugs. I think it all works really well. I guess many would call this a retro look. I think its clean and classic. I am very please with it.

My Proof of Concept Mod

I cut my teeth by modding an Invicta with a Seiko NH35 movement. This is a great plaform for Rolex- and Tudor-inspired mods. There are limitations to bezel inserts, but all aftermarket dials and hands for Seiko mods fit (models with the NH35 movement). I am even okay with leaving the Invicta engraving on the side of the case, by the way.

Here, I have brushed the case with ScotchBrite (a mod I really like), removed the cyclops magnifier, and changed the dial and hands. Using a Dagaz Clavier dial, all-white UK Ministry of Defense hands, and grey RAF/US milspec strap, it’s a twist on the classic Milsub. A good way to start, I thought. It turned out better than expected for my first try.
